Mary McCandless’ company of characters, “The Ladies of the Sunshine Club”, are being expanded into a full length show. Once again, Mary is joining forces with the amazing Canadian composer/lyricist, Harry Lewis, to bring this to life.
“Lilacs in the Snow”, starring Mary McCandless, is also in production. Mary will recreate the celebrated role of The Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrova, for which she received rave reviews. This one woman musical was written especially for Mary McCandless by Tom Kneebone. The incredible blend of music and lyrics were written by Dinah Christie.
When the last Tsar, Nicholas II and his immediate family were murdered in 1918, some of his relatives managed to escape. Among them was his favourite sister, The Grand Duchess Olga, who eventually took refuge in Canada and settled on a farm in rural Cambellville and later in Cooksville, Ontario. She died in obscurity in over a barber shop in the east end of Toronto – a far cry from the Romanov Palaces near St. Petersburg where she was born.
“Lilacs in the Snow” celebrates the remarkable life of her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Olga of Russia, Daughter of Tsar Alexander III, sister of Tsar Nicholas II and Aunt to the Grand Duchess Anastasia.
Mary is presently working on two writing projects. A series of short stories entitled, “Second Teardrop From The Left”, about her “adventures in living” on the musical stage and a book with the working title, “Illuminating Life”, based on her experiences as a spiritualist healer. www.masterhealer.ca
